A single bare tree standing alone in a foggy field

Five foggy mornings

Fog is one of my favourite kinds of weather. It hides everything that doesn’t matter and leaves just a tree, a road, a few cows. Here are five foggy mornings from the last few years that I keep going back to.

Winter fog turns a whole field into a blank page. The trees stop being trees and become ink drawings.

The poles march off into nothing and one small figure walks in. Fog can make a quiet road feel endless.

Not all fog is cold and grey. On a late-summer morning it stays soft and green, and the herd carries on like nothing is happening.

Same field, different seasons. In fog it doesn’t matter much what month it is. The world just goes quiet.

Why I love foggy mornings

Photography is my zen, and fog might be the most relaxing weather to photograph in. There’s nothing to chase and nothing to fuss over. I just slow down, look for one simple shape, and let the fog do the rest.

Have a favourite foggy spot, or a morning you’ll never forget? I’d love to hear about it.
