Thirteen-lined ground squirrel

The thirteen-lined ground squirrel is a slender prairie squirrel, with alternating dark and pale stripes, the dark ones broken into rows of spots.

It lives in short-grass prairie, lawns, and roadsides, feeding on seeds and insects before it hibernates for the winter.

The neat rows of spots and stripes on a thirteen-lined ground squirrel look hand-drawn, and I never get tired of them.
