Coyote
Sandy-grey coat, tall ears, and a watchful stare, the coyote is a master of staying just out of sight until you turn around. Highly adaptable, the coyote lives in prairie, parkland, forest edge, and even suburbs across Manitoba. It is most active at dawn and dusk, when it hunts mice, voles, rabbits, and other small prey.
Coyotes are adaptable canines that live in prairies, farmland, and the edges of towns across Manitoba, hunting mice, voles, rabbits, and insects. They are most active at dawn and dusk and are often heard before they are seen, with a chorus of yips and howls. Their long legs, narrow muzzle, and bushy, down-pointing tail help set them apart from foxes and wolves. Coyotes are known for their yips and howls, which can be heard at night, and pairs often raise their pups in a den dug into a hillside.
This is a favourite frame of a coyote standing in tall grass, looking straight at the camera.
