Redhead

Male redhead swimming in open water among cattails, Manitoba

The redhead is a medium-sized diving duck. The male has a rounded, rusty-red head, a pale gray body, a black chest, and a blue-gray bill with a white band and a black tip. The female is a plain warm brown.

Redheads nest in large prairie marshes with plenty of cattails and open water, and the females sometimes lay eggs in the nests of other ducks. They dive for aquatic plants and spend the winter on coastal and southern waters.

I like how this male sits alone in the open water, with the cattails and the blue reflections around him.
