Coyote
Sandy-grey coat, tall ears, and a watchful stare, the coyote is a master of staying just out of sight until you turn around.
Coyotes are adaptable canines that live in prairies, farmland, and the edges of towns across Manitoba, hunting mice, voles, rabbits, and insects. They are most active at dawn and dusk and are often heard before they are seen, with a chorus of yips and howls. Their long legs, narrow muzzle, and bushy, down-pointing tail help set them apart from foxes and wolves.
This is a favourite frame of a coyote standing in tall grass, looking straight at the camera.
