Great blue heron

The great blue heron is Manitoba’s largest and most familiar heron. It stalks the shallows of marshes, ponds and river edges, standing motionless before a lightning-fast strike. They return in spring as the ice goes out, and in flight they fold their long necks into an S-shape.
